Create a dynamic QR code

Design it here, free. Save it as a dynamic code when you want the destination to stay editable and the scans counted.

What happens on a scan

One extra hop, and it is the hop you control

A static code sends the phone straight to a URL that can never change. A dynamic code sends it to an address you own the far end of.

  1. 01

    The printed code

The image encodes a short link on our domain. It is fixed the moment it goes to the printer, and it never has to change again.

  2. 02

    Our redirect

A scan hits that link and is forwarded in a few milliseconds. The lookup does nothing else - it does not check your subscription, and it does not wait for analytics to be written.

  3. 03

    Your destination

Whatever you point it at today. Change it this afternoon and every scan from then on follows, with no reprint.

Our policy

Static codes never expire. Dynamic codes work while you have a plan.

A static QR code carries its destination inside the pattern itself. There is no redirect, no server, nothing anyone can switch off - so the ones you make here are yours forever, free, with no account and no expiry date. If what you need is a code that outlives us, make it static and print it.

A dynamic code is different: it points at a redirect we run on your behalf every time somebody scans it, which is what lets you change the destination after printing. That runs while you have a plan. Cancel and it keeps working for 30 more days, we email you before anything changes, and nothing is ever deleted - your codes, links and scan history all wait for you.

What lasts, and for how long

  • ForeverStatic codes, free, no account
  • On a planEditable destinations and scan analytics
  • 30 daysDynamic codes keep working after you cancel
  • KeptCodes and history, so paying restores everything
  • StoppedCodes used for abuse

Abuse is the one thing we stop immediately and without a grace period - phishing, malware, fraud, impersonation and the rest of the acceptable use policy.

What you get back

Numbers that decide whether to print more

Scan analytics are the reason to keep a dynamic code after the first destination change.

Volume

Scans over time

Daily counts per code, so a table tent and a flyer stop being guesses.

Place

Country and city

Derived from the request, never from a stored IP address.

Device

Phone, tablet, desktop

Enough to know whether the landing page has to work on a phone. It always does.

History

Unlimited

Scan history on Pro and above. Starter keeps 365 days. Daily rollups outlive the raw events, which we delete.

Questions

Dynamic QR codes, answered

What is a dynamic QR code?
A code whose image encodes a short link we host rather than your destination. Scanning it hits that link, which forwards to wherever you currently point it. Change the destination and the same printed code goes somewhere new.
Can I convert a static code I already printed?
No, and nobody can. A static code has your original URL baked into the pattern, so the pattern itself would have to change. This is the reason to make a code dynamic before the print run rather than after.
How fast does a destination change take effect?
Immediately. The next scan goes to the new destination; there is nothing to re-print, re-upload or wait for.
What if I stop paying?
Your existing codes keep redirecting to their last saved destination. Editing, analytics and new codes pause until you reactivate. Codes used for abuse are disabled - that is the only exception.
Is there a scan limit?
No. Scans are unlimited on every paid plan and we do not throttle a code that suddenly gets popular.
What do you record about each scan?
Timestamp, coarse location, device type and referrer. We never store a raw IP address; repeat visitors are recognised within a single day through a salted hash that rotates daily.
