Custom domain QR codes

Your domain on every code and short link. Type the subdomain you want and see the two DNS records it takes — before you sign up for anything.

A subdomain you are not using for anything else. go., qr., link. and scan. are the usual choices.

What people would scan

Type a subdomain to see the link and the records.

Why it matters

The scanner shows the domain before anyone taps

This is the whole argument, and it takes one sentence: a phone camera previews the destination host. Every code you print on someone else's domain is an advert for them, shown at the exact moment your customer decides whether to trust the link.

Trust

A name they recognise

Scam QR codes are a real and well-publicised problem. A recognisable host is the cheapest reassurance there is, and it appears before the tap rather than after it.

Ownership

Links that outlive the vendor

Codes on your own domain can be pointed anywhere later, including away from us. That is not a threat to our business, it is the reason a serious buyer says yes.

Measurement

Your domain in their analytics

Traffic arriving from your own hostname is easier to attribute in Google Analytics, and it stops your campaigns showing up as referrals from a shortener.

How many you get

One domain, or fifty

A single business needs one. An agency needs one per client, which is what the higher plans are actually for.

Our policy

Static codes never expire. Dynamic codes work while you have a plan.

A static QR code carries its destination inside the pattern itself. There is no redirect, no server, nothing anyone can switch off - so the ones you make here are yours forever, free, with no account and no expiry date. If what you need is a code that outlives us, make it static and print it.

A dynamic code is different: it points at a redirect we run on your behalf every time somebody scans it, which is what lets you change the destination after printing. That runs while you have a plan. Cancel and it keeps working for 30 more days, we email you before anything changes, and nothing is ever deleted - your codes, links and scan history all wait for you.

What lasts, and for how long

Forever
Static codes, free, no account
On a plan
Editable destinations and scan analytics
30 days
Dynamic codes keep working after you cancel
Kept
Codes and history, so paying again restores everything
Stopped
Codes used for abuse, straight away

Abuse is the one thing we stop without a grace period - phishing, malware, fraud, impersonation and the rest of the acceptable use policy.

Questions

Custom domains, answered

What does a custom domain actually change?
The address people see. Every phone camera shows the destination host before the person taps it, so the moment of decision is "open go.yourbrand.com?" instead of "open a link on a shortener I have never heard of?". Nothing about the code, the design or the analytics changes — only whose name is on it.
Do I need to buy a new domain?
No. It is a subdomain of the one you already own — go.yourbrand.com, qr.yourbrand.com — so there is nothing extra to register and nothing extra to renew. Your website and email are untouched.
Can I use my root domain?
Usually not, and you would not want to. A root domain generally cannot hold a CNAME record, and pointing yours at us would take your website down with it. Some DNS providers offer ALIAS or ANAME records that get around this; a subdomain is simpler and safer either way.
How long does it take?
Two DNS records, then minutes to an hour for them to propagate. We re-check on a schedule and tell you when it verifies, so you are not refreshing a page waiting for it.
What happens to my codes if I remove the domain?
Codes printed on that hostname stop resolving, because the hostname is baked into the printed pattern and there is nothing we can do from our side once your DNS stops pointing at us. This is the one part of the promise that depends on you: keep the CNAME, and the codes keep working.
Does the certificate cost anything?
No. HTTPS is issued and renewed automatically for your hostname. There is nothing to buy, install or remember to renew.
Which plans include it?
Every paid plan. Starter includes 1, Pro includes 10 and Business includes 50 — enough for an agency to give every client their own.

A custom domain only applies to dynamic codes, because a static code has no link of ours in it to rebrand. If the codes are going to print, read what makes a QR code permanent first — on your own domain, that answer changes in your favour.
