Hovercode alternative, with the same price list

Worth saying first: the two price grids are nearly identical, and anyone comparing them will see that in a second. $0, $12, $39 and $99, the same dynamic-code counts, the same domain counts, ten team members at $39 and webhooks at $99 on both sides. So this page is about what sits inside each tier, what happens when you stop paying, and the five things they have that we do not. Their figures were read on 16 September 2026.

Where the two grids line up

Their tier names against ours, matched by price. Nothing in this table is a point for either side; it is here so the rest of the page has somewhere to start.

$12ProStarter100 dynamic codes, both sides1, both sides
$39BusinessPro600 dynamic codes — theirs per month, ours live at once10, both sides
$99Business PlusBusiness2,000 dynamic codes — theirs per month, ours live at once50, both sides

Forms and GS1 Digital Link codes are on the free plan on both sides, each free plan also carries one multi-link page, scans are unlimited on both, and the top tier of each holds 25 people and 10 workspaces. Mind the names when you compare: their Pro is the $12 plan and ours is the $39 one. Hovercode Pro, at $12, lists no API and no bulk creation; our Starter at the same price imports a spreadsheet, and both sides put the API at $39.

What each tier includes here that theirs does not

Six things, each on the plan named beside it, each checkable against the pages linked at the foot.

Importing a list starts at $12

Paste a spreadsheet of up to 1,000 rows and every row becomes a named code with its own short link, from Starter and up. Hovercode’s pricing page puts bulk creation on its $39 Business tier, so the same job costs three times as much there for anyone whose codes arrive as a list.

500 codes in the free batch tool, not 100

Their bulk page offers “100 static QRs per batch without an account”, from a CSV or a pasted comma-separated list, returned as PNGs in a ZIP. Ours takes 500 a batch and builds them in the browser, so the list is never uploaded at all. For a shelf of products or a room of tables, that is one pass instead of five.

Rules that send each scan somewhere different

Device, country, language and date rules are on every plan here, weekly schedules from Starter and up, and region, city, scan count and A/B splits from Pro and Business. We found nothing offering routing rules or traffic splits on Hovercode’s pricing, integrations or help pages on 16 September 2026.

An API with a playground in the docs

Both put the API at $39, and both can be tried before paying — their API page says so plainly. Theirs covers forms, GS1 and webhooks, documented mainly in Python. The difference is the reading: ours runs each call in the browser from the docs page, in the language you use, and prints the answer beside it. Webhooks are $99 on both sides.

Pages that can be a menu, not only a list of links

Both include pages behind a code in the same counts — 5, 50 and 400 by tier. A QR Menu here takes headings, paragraphs, photos and dividers as well as buttons, which is what a restaurant needs before it will put one on a table.

A code per table, per property, per product

Pages written for the jobs their site does not cover — menus and table codes, reviews, events, estate agency boards — each opening the generator on the right kind of code rather than a general one. Their sitemap carried a single use-case page on 16 September 2026.

Where Hovercode is ahead

Five of them, and none is a small thing. If one matters to your work, they are the better buy and this page will not pretend otherwise.

Their $39 and $99 allowances refill every month

Hovercode’s pricing lists 600 and 2,000 dynamic codes “per month” on Business and Business Plus. Ours are totals: 600 and 2,000 live at once, for as long as you want them. Over a year of heavy creation theirs is the larger number, and no reading of ours changes that.

Canva, Figma, Chrome and Airtable

Their integrations page lists all four, plus a connector for AI assistants that speak MCP. We have none of them: codes here are made in the app, through the API, or from a spreadsheet.

Round codes and AI-art codes

They have a circular code generator and an AI art generator, which their own page calls “very much a prototype”. Ours do rounded modules, circular eyes, logos, colours and frames, but a code here is always square.

A link that shares one code’s analytics

Their changelog announced sharing the analytics of an individual code in September 2023, which suits an agency reporting to a client. Here, numbers live behind the account: you would add the client as one of the 10 people on our Pro plan, $39 a month, instead.

Three codes that stay alive after you cancel

Their cancellation article says the first three dynamic codes remain active on the free plan. Here, after the grace period below, every code pauses until the account has a plan again — including the first three.

The day you stop paying

The part of any subscription that only matters once, and by then it is too late to compare. Both sides state their terms in public; these are quoted from theirs and read from the billing code in ours.

Their cancellation article

Last updated 22 October 2025. You move to the free plan, where the first 3 dynamic codes, 3 short links and first page stay active. Beyond that, items “will become inactive but won’t be deleted”, and “Any QR codes, short links, or pages using your custom domain will stop working”. Resubscribing reactivates everything. No grace period is mentioned.

What happens here

Every code goes on redirecting for 30 days past the end of the period you paid for, codes on your own domain included, and an email warns you before that runs out. After it, they pause on a page that explains instead of a dead link — all of them, not the first three — and paying again restores the lot. Editing and analytics stop at cancellation. Nothing is ever deleted.

Custom domains

Short links on your own domain, chosen code by code.

Codes open go.yourbrand.com/menu rather than a link with our name in it, so the address under the code is yours. You add two DNS records and we check them. Then pick the domain for each code as you make it, or move a whole list of codes onto it at once.

Change many codes at once

Tick the codes, then pause, tag, file or move them together.

Tick codes in the list, or pick every code with a tag, and pause or resume them, add or remove tags, move them to a folder or onto your own domain, or add campaign tags, in one go. The API does the same in one request.

Short links, with your own ending

The link on its own, for a bio, an email or an ad.

Paste a link and get a short one you can change, route and count, with no QR code unless you want one. Every dynamic code already has its short link beside it, and a short link gets its QR code in one click - the same link, so clicks and scans count together. On Business you choose how the link ends, like /spring-menu, instead of random letters.

GS1 Digital Link for products

The retail code that carries your GTIN and still opens a web page.

Your domain and the GTIN from under the barcode, with batch, serial and dates if you want them, in the link format GS1 set for retail. A phone opens your page; the product data rides along in the address. The GTIN’s check digit is checked before anything is made.

Wi-Fi, contact cards, email, phone and SMS

Networks, contacts, calendar dates and places, not only links.

A website, plain text, a Wi-Fi network, an email, a phone number, a text message, a contact card, a GS1 Digital Link, a PDF, a location, a calendar event and more. Most download free, with no account; the few marked “Editable only” need one.

PDF codes you can update

Your logo in the middle

Upload any image; we size it so the code still scans.

PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 15 MB - we shrink it ourselves, so nobody has to compress a file first. Error correction goes up to make room, and the logo is never allowed to cover more of the pattern than the code can lose.

Folders and tags

Keep one location’s or one campaign’s codes together.

Put codes in a folder per shop, listing or campaign and filter the list by it. Deleting a folder never deletes a code - they move to No folder, and you can undo it.

Starter and up

A coffee roaster’s codes filtered to the Retail bags folder: the house blend, Ethiopia Guji and decaf bag codes, each with its tags - 12oz, house blend, single origin, brew guide, decaf - its short link and its scans.

Campaign presets

Saved UTM parameters, so printed scans are not “direct”.

A printed code arrives in your web analytics as direct traffic. A preset fills in source, medium and campaign in one click, so the flyer and the table tent show up as themselves.

Scans by city and region for each code, and towns on the live map. Coarse on purpose: the place the phone’s network reports, never a street or a precise position.

Pro and Business

Scans of a café’s table-tent code by city, the top six: Portland with 60%, then Vancouver, Beaverton, Seattle, San Francisco and London, each with its count, a bar and its share.

Webhooks

Your server hears about every scan and every change.

An API for the codes you print

A REST API for your own code: make dynamic codes and short links, change where they go, render SVG, PNG or PDF, add your domains and change hundreds of codes in one request. No-code tools like Zapier, Make and n8n can call it too, with a plain HTTP step. The API comes with Pro and up, and every request carries your key.

Choosing between them, answered

Are the prices really the same?
Yes, and the headline limits too: $0, $12, $39 and $99, with 3, 100, 600 and 2,000 dynamic codes and 0, 1, 10 and 50 custom domains on both sides, read from their pricing page on 16 September 2026. The differences are inside the tiers, not on the grid.
What is the biggest practical difference?
Two. Their 600 and 2,000 are monthly allowances while ours are live totals, which favours them for high-volume creation. And importing a list of codes costs $12 here against $39 there, which favours us for anyone arriving with a spreadsheet.
What happens to my codes if I stop paying here?
They keep redirecting for 30 days after the paid period, codes on your own domain included, with a warning email before it ends. Then they pause on a page that explains rather than a dead link. Nothing is deleted, and paying again restores all of them.
And on Hovercode?
You drop to their free plan, which keeps a handful of items working and makes the rest inactive without deleting them; their article also states that anything on a custom domain stops working, and mentions no grace period. It was last updated 22 October 2025. The exact wording, and which items survive, are quoted further up this page, and the article is linked below — read it before relying on either summary.
Do codes on a custom domain keep working here during that period?
Yes. A scan is answered from the code’s own status and the domain’s DNS verification, and neither of those is touched when a plan ends — so a code on go.yourbrand.com behaves exactly like one on ours for the whole 30 days, as long as the DNS records stay in place.
Is anything free on both sides?
Both give three dynamic codes that never expire, forms and GS1 Digital Link codes on the free plan, and unlimited scans. Static codes are unlimited and account-free here, 500 at a time in the bulk tool.
Can I try before moving anything?
Make a code on the free plan, print it on one real thing, and move it a few times. That is the whole product in five minutes, and it costs nothing — 3 editable items with no card.
